Ohio Wesleyan 96, Oberlin 59

Junior post Dustin Rudegeair (Yellow Springs) scored 8 points and senior post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) had 4 as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 17-0 run and went on to defeat Oberlin in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday in Oberlin.

Rudegeair put the Bishops on the scoreboard with a lay-in on Ohio Wesleyan's first possession of the game, then hit the first of 2 free throws and a 3-pointer for a 6-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

Chojnacki and senior wing Matt Shirer (Medina) followed with lay-ins for a 10-0 Bishop lead, and Chojnacki added another lay-in to make it 12-0 just under 3 minutes into the contest.

Rudegeair sank a lay-in and senior wing Ted Uritus (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) buried a 3-pointer for a 17-0 Bishop lead with 15:35 left in the first half.

Mike Loll hit the second of 2 free throws to put Oberlin on the scoreboard at the 14:32 mark, but junior wing Brian Cafarella (Westerville/North) hit a 3-pointer to extend the Bishop lead to 20-1. The Bishops would go on to lead by a margin of 50-22 at halftime, and pulled away during the second half.

Junior post Jesse Jean (Alexandria, Va./Hyde (Conn.) School) led the Bishops with 20 points, going 9-for-11 from the field. Cafarella finished with 13 points, sophomore wing Kyle Miller (Delaware/Hayes) scored 11 points and Rudegair finished with 10 points. Chojnacki led the Bishops with 10 rebounds and 3 assists.

Loll and Jordan Beard shared the Oberlin lead with 15 points apiece. Dylan Venable grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds and Matt Godwin had 3 assists.
