Ohio Wesleyan 96, D'Youville 31

Senior wing Ted Uritus (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) and senior post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) scored 3 points apiece as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 10-2 run and never looked back on the way to a win over D'Youville in the first round of the Penn State-Behrend Tournament on Friday in Erie, Pa.

Ohio Wesleyan will play Penn State-Behrend in the tournament championship game on Saturday. Penn State-Behrend defeated Elmira, 65-50, in Friday's other first-round game.

Uritus was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer and drained all 3 free throws to put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard, and Chojnacki's 3-pointer capped the game-opening 10-2 run.

The Spartans closed to within 12-8 on a free throw by Nick Wahl with 14:04 left in the first half, but D'Youville would not score again for nearly 7 minutes.

Meanwhile, Ohio Wesleyan went on an 18-0 spree that sealed the outcome. Junior wing Brian Cafarella (Westerville/North) drilled three 3-pointers and sophomore wing Kyle Holliday (Van Wert) had a 3-pointer and a lay-in during the run.

Ohio Wesleyan went on to lead by a margin of 46-16 at halftime and pulled away during the second half.

Senior wing Matt Shirer (Medina) led the balanced Bishop offense with 15 points. Cafarella finished with a career-high 12 points and Uritus, Chojnacki, junior post Dustin Rudegeair (Yellow Springs) and junior post Jesse Jean (Alexandria, Va./Hyde (Conn.) School) scored 10 points apiece, marking the first time since November 22, 2003, that Ohio Wesleyan had 6 players reach double digits in scoring.

Sophomore wing Kyle Miller (Delaware/Hayes) led the Bishops with a career-high 10 rebounds and dished out a career-high 6 assists. Junior guard Casey Teeters (Westerville/Columbus St. Charles) led the Bishops with a career-high 7 assists.

Tom Kowalski led D'Youville with 13 points. Andrew Dockery had a team-high 6 boards for the Spartans.
