Ohio Wesleyan 84, Penn State-Behrend 64

Senior post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) and junior post Dustin Rudegeair (Yellow Springs) combined for all 9 points during a game-opening 9-0 run that started Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a win over Penn State-Behrend in the championship game of the Penn State-Behrend Tournament on Saturday in Erie, Pa.

Chojnacki and Rudegeair opened the game with lay-ins, then Chojnacki hit another lay-in and Rudegeair buried a 3-pointer for a 9-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead with 16:28 left in the first half.

Adam Potter hit a 3-pointer to put the Lions on the scoreboard, but Ohio Wesleyan responded with a 20-6 run that featured 3-pointers by junior guard Casey Teeters (Westerville/Columbus St. Charles) and junior wing Brian Cafarella (Westerville/North) and was capped by back-to-back Rudegeair lay-ins that gave the Bishops a 29-9 lead with 7:21 left in the first half.

Ohio Wesleyan would lead by as many as 29 points during the first half, that on Chojnacki's 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the period, and the Bishops' biggest lead was 32 points midway through the second half.

Chojnacki led the Bishops with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Senior wing Matt Shirer (Medina) and Rudegeair finished with 16 points apiece, and Shirer led the Bishops with 3 assists.

Justin Kovac led the Lions with 10 points. David Gahan had a team-high 5 boards for Penn State-Behrend and Dan Ziegler had a team-high 4 assists.

Chojnacki was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. He was joined on the all-tournament team by Shirer and Rudegeair.
