Austin Brown and Ryan Werntz scored 5 points apiece as DePauw
went on a 14-1 run in the second half and held off an Ohio Wesleyan comeback
to win the championship game of the Mike Rokicki Community Versus Cancer
Challenge on Saturday in Greencastle, Ind.
Illinois Wesleyan defeated Judson, 92-50, in Saturday's consolation game.
Ohio Wesleyan had closed to within 55-51 on a jumper by senior wing Matt
Shirer (Medina) when the Tigers went on the 14-1 spurt.

with a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws to give the Tigers a 62-51
lead with 12:48 left in regulation time.
Junior post Jesse Jean (Alexandria, Va./Hyde (Conn.) School) hit the first
of 2 free throws to make it a 10-point game, but the Tigers answered with
a 3-pointer by
Werntz, a jumper from Tony James and a pair of Werntz free throws to stretch
the margin to 69-52 with 10:50 left in the game.

throws from junior wing Brian Cafarella (Westerville/North) and a 3-pointer

Ohio Wesleyan within 82-77.
James
hit 1 of 2 free throws on DePauw's next possession, giving the Bishops
a chance to make it a one-possession game, but Teeters' lay-in wouldn't
fall, and the Tigers cleared the rebound and iced the outcome with a pair
of Brown free throws with :12 to go.
Ohio Wesleyan had taken a 28-27 lead on a lay-in by Holliday with 8:39
left in the first half, but DePauw's Mike Moore followed with a 3-pointer
that gave the Tigers the lead for good. DePauw would lead by as many as
7 points in the first half and took a 46-42 lead at the break.
Shirer opened the second half with a 3-pointer that brought the Bishops
within 46-45, and the Bishops were within 48-47 on a hoop by senior post
Ben Chojnacki (Medina) with 17:42 left in the game, but DePauw countered
with a 3-point play and a basket by Brown to stretch the lead to 6 points
and set the stage for the Tiger scoring run.
