Ohio Wesleyan 81, Capital 71

Ohio Wesleyan went on a key 12-0 run during the second half to break open a close game and defeat Capital in non-conference action on Wednesday night in Columbus.

Capital led for most of the first half, taking a 7-point lead on a lay-in by Quinton Mitchell with 12 minutes left in the half.

The Bishops pulled even at 32-32, then scored the next 6 points to post a 38-32 lead with :23 left in the period. The Crusaders closed to within 38-34 at the intermission, and were within 64-63 when Ohio Wesleyan went on a 12-0 run to break the game open.

Senior post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) led the Bishops with 19 points, followed by senior wing Matt Shirer (Medina) with 14 points, freshman guard Robby Gardiner (Dublin/Coffman) with 12 points and junior post Jesse Jean (Alexandria, Va./Hyde (Conn.) School) scored 10 points. Chojnacki grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds and shared the team lead in assists with Shirer, each dishing out 3 helpers.

Steve Kyser led the Crusaders with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Nate Stahl added 15 points and Casey Brown had 10 points, and Pat Stolly led Capital with 7 assists.
