Lynchburg 17, Ohio Wesleyan 8

Kyle McGuire had a goal and an assist as Lynchburg broke to a 4-0 lead and went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference play on Sunday at Lynchburg, Va.

The Hornets got on the scoreboard on Austin Jeter's goal less than 2 minutes into the contest, then scored 3 times in a span of 1:04 to stretch the lead to 4-0. Tyler Tolson scored a man-up goal off a McGuire assist with 9:46 to play, then Leon Bournes found the back of the net 21 seconds later before McGuire scored another man-up goal at 8:42.

Sophomore attacker Dave Castignola (Dublin/Scioto) brought the Bishops within 4-1 with a goal with :30 left in the first quarter, but the Hornets struck back with a Tolson goal 7 seconds later. Tolson scored early in the second quarter, and Lynchburg added 2 more goals in the next 80 seconds to increase the margin to 8-1.

Junior midfielder Steve Fowler (Wilton, Conn.) added a goal to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 8-2 at halftime, but the teams traded goals 3 times to open the third quarter and the Bishops were not able to score 2 goals in a row until the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, when senior midfielder Chad Pouliot (Ridgewood, N.J.) and freshman midfielder Craig Aronoff (Potomac, Md./The Bullis School) scored goals just over a minute apart.

Junior midfielder Chris Eccles (Secane, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) led the Bishops with 3 goals, while Castignola, Fowler and sophomore attacker Eric Turner (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) each contributed a goal and an assist.

Junior Ryan Perone (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) went the distance in the Bishop goal, recording 18 saves.

Tolson led the Hornets with 5 goals and an assist, with Brian McCulloch adding 3 goals and 3 assists and Ryan Cranston adding 3 goals and 2 assists.

Garrett Curran played nearly 57 minutes in the Lynchburg goal, recording 10 saves. Kurt Peter, David Schnur and Porter Whitman also saw time between the pipes for the Hornets.
