Ohio Wesleyan 24, Neumann 2

Freshman attacker Chris Ehlinger (Radnor, Pa.) scored a pair of goals less than a minute apart to cap a 6-0 first-quarter run that started Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a non-conference win over Neumann on Wednesday in Aston, Pa.

The Bishops got on the scoreboard with a goal by sophomore attacker Dave Castignola (Dublin/Scioto) midway through the period, then freshman attacker Rob Young (Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock South), who had assisted Castignola's goal, scored an unassisted goal and fed sophomore midfielder Brian Deal (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) for a 3-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

Neumann's Warren Danenza drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty with 2:45 left in the quarter, and the Bishops took advantage of the non-releasable penalty with a pair of goals 8 seconds apart. Sophomore attacker Karl Zimmerman (Utica, Mich./Brother Rice) scored with 2:00 left, and Ehlinger scored off a Young feed at the 1:52 mark. Ehlinger followed with a goal with 1:00 to play for a 6-0 Bishop advantage after one period.

Ehlinger and junior midfielder Steve Fowler (Wilton, Conn.) had goals early in the second quarter as the Bishops stretched the lead to 8-0.

Neumann answered with a goal by Dan Gregg, but the Bishops reeled off the next 6 goals, with Ehlinger and junior midfielder Harrison Iuliano (Mendham, N.J./Blair Academy) scoring 2 apiece, to break the game open.

Gregg notched another goal with 2:32 left in the first half, but Ohio Wesleyan answered with scores by Castignola and Zimmerman during the final minute of the half to cap a 10-goal second quarter and take a 16-2 lead into the locker room.

Young led the Bishops with 2 goals and 4 assists. Ehlinger scored a team-high 5 goals, Iuliano finished with 3 goals and 2 assists, Castignola contributed 3 goals, and Zimmerman added 2 goals and 3 assists.

Junior Ryan Perone (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) had 5 saves during the first 40-plus minutes, while freshman Gavin Bennett (Lebanon, N.J./The Millbrook (N.Y.) School) had 3 saves during the final 18 minutes.

Gregg scored 2 goals for Neumann.

Christopher Conroy was credited with 21 saves in the Knight goal.
