Ohio Wesleyan 13, Wittenberg 8

Sophomore attacker Eric Turner (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) racked up 3 goals as Ohio Wesleyan outscored Wittenberg, 5-0, during the first quarter and went on to defeat the Tigers in a North Coast Athletic Conference game on Wednesday night in Springfield.

Turner scored off a feed from junior midfielder Chris Eccles (Secane, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) just over a minute into the game, and less than a minute later, Eccles found sophomore attacker Dave Castignola (Dublin/Scioto) for a score that made it 2-0.

Eccles scored a solo goal just over a minute after that, then Turner added a pair of goals later in the period to stretch the Bishop lead to 5-0.

Wittenberg rallied early in the second quarter, getting scores from Mike Provost and Jeff Capella, but the Bishops closed out the period with 3 straight goals. Castignola rang up a man-up score with 4:28 left in the half, then Turner and Castignola scored goals 31 seconds apart to give Ohio Wesleyan an 8-2 lead going into the locker room.

Capella opened the second-half scoring with a goal for the Tigers, but once again Ohio Wesleyan reeled off 3 straight scores. This time, it was senior midfielder B.C. Green (Cazenovia, N.Y.) with a pair of goals sandwiched around one by Castignola.

Turner added a goal early in the fourth quarter and freshman midfielder Craig Aronoff (Potomac, Md./The Bullis School) wrapped up the Bishop scoring with a goal midway through the period.

Turner led the Bishops with 5 goals and 2 assists, while Castignola finished with 4 goals and 2 assists.

Junior Ryan Perone (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) had 14 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan goal.

Capella had 3 goals for Wittenberg and Jon Van Vranken added 2 goals.

Pat Garlock recorded 7 saves in the Tiger cage.
