Ohio Wesleyan 75, Oberlin 45

Senior wing Rachel Messaros (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) drilled three 3-pointers during a 15-3 first-half run as Ohio Wesleyan overcame a chilly start and went on to pull away for a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Oberlin on Wednesday in Oberlin.

The Yeowomen had taken an 8-5 lead on a jumper by Jessie Oram with 11:56 left in the first half.

Freshman guard Erica Gibson (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Country Day) then stole the ball and went in for a lay-in to bring the Bishops within 8-7 with 10:03 to play in the half, then grabbed a defensive rebound and went coast-to-coast to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay at 9-8 with 9:31 to play.

Messaros followed with a 3-pointer for a 12-8 Bishop lead, and after Oberlin's Roneisha Kinney and sophomore post Laurel Lawson (Navarre/Fairless) traded buckets, Messaros hit back-to-back 3-pointers for a 20-10 Ohio Wesleyan advantage with 5:29 to go in the period.

Oberlin closed to within 20-14 on buckets by Alyssa Clark and Kira Rivera, but Ohio Wesleyan scored the next 8 points, with Messaros and senior guard Emily Lloyd (Canton/Massillon Jackson) drilling 3-pointers, and the lead would remain in double figures throughout the remainder of the game.

Messaros led the Bishops with 22 points. Lawson and Lloyd shared the team lead with 6 rebounds apiece, and junior wing Lindsey Macklin (Columbus/Bexley) led the Bishops with 4 assists.

Oram had 13 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Yeowomen. Kinney finished with 12 points and Clark had a team-high 4 assists.
