Wittenberg 70, Ohio Wesleyan 54

Tosha Johnson scored 7 straight points during an early 9-0 run and Gina Carney hit a 3-pointer to kick off an 8-0 run that helped Wittenberg break open a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday in Springfield.

With the Bishops trailing, 6-5, after a bucket by junior post Malley Adamsky (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), Johnson answered with a 3-pointer, then hit a lay-in and a jumper. Kathy Hittle added a lay-in that stretched the Tiger lead to 15-5 with 8:53 left in the first half.

Ohio Wesleyan rallied to within 19-14, with junior post Kelli Lester (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) scoring 6 straight points, but Carney and Ali Rohlfs hit 3-pointers for the Tigers and Katie Gregorevich followed with a bucket that gave Wittenberg a 27-14 lead with 3:58 to play in the period.

The Tigers led by a 37-21 margin at halftime and led by as many as 27 points during the second half.

Senior wing Rachel Messaros (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) led the Bishops with 14 points, while Lester finished with 13 points and a team-high 7 rebounds. Junior wing Steffi Graf (Poland/Seminary) led the Bishops with 2 assists.

Hittle, Gregorevich and Rachel Clark-Haggy shared the Wittenberg lead with 12 points apiece. Hittle led all players with 12 points and Andrea Hackett led the Tigers with 5 assists.
