Franklin 55, Ohio Wesleyan 48

Sophomore post Laurel Lawson (Navarre/Fairless) scored 13 points and junior wing Steffi Graf (Poland/Seminary) had 9 more as Ohio Wesleyan erased a 16-point second-half deficit, but Franklin scored the last 7 points of the game to escape with a non-conference win on Tuesday night at Branch Rickey Arena.

Ohio Wesleyan trailed, 26-12, at halftime after making just 20 percent of its shots and turning the ball over 12 times during the first 20 minutes of play.

The Grizzlies took their biggest lead of the game when Katie Douglas opened the second half with a jumper that stretched the margin to 28-12.

Ohio Wesleyan chipped away at the deficit, getting a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Stacey Aaron (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) and a 3-pointer and 4 free throws from Graf to climb within 35-27 with 11:49 left in the game.

The Bishops still trailed, 39-31, when Lawson converted a 3-point play and Graf added a pair of free throws to make it a 39-36 game with 8:56 left in regulation time.

Franklin led, 48-45, on a pair of Heather Harper free throws with 2:20 remaining before senior guard Emily Lloyd (Canton/Massillon Jackson) buried a game-tying 3-pointer with 2:10 to go.

Each team had 2 chances to break the tie, but it was the Grizzlies that took the lead for good when Leslie Kingseed hit a fast break lay-in with :53 to play for a 50-48 Franklin lead.

After a Bishop turnover, Brittany Beehler tacked on a pair of free throws with :18 left, and after Ohio Wesleyan misfired on a 3-pointer, Kingseed hit a free throw with :01 left, and when Kingseed missed the second, Douglas grabbed the rebound and hit a jumper that beat the buzzer for the 55-48 final.

Lawson led all players with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Senior wing Rachel Messaros (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) grabbed 7 boards and junior post Kelli Lester (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) snagged 6 more. Lloyd led the Bishops with 2 assists.

Heather Harper led Franklin with 12 points, while Douglas finished with 10 points and shared the team lead with 6 rebounds. Jennifer Redicker also grabbed 6 boards for Franklin, and Beehler led the Grizzlies with 5 assists.
