3rd of 9 at NCAC championship

Sophomore Catie Coleman (Medina/Lodi Cloverleaf), sophomore Leah Schmelzer (Marion/Pleasant), freshman Sarah Shinn (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) and sophomore Laura Binkley (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) earned all-conference honors in leading Ohio Wesleyan at the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, hosted by Earlham College on Saturday in Richmond, Ind.

Oberlin won the meet, edging Allegheny by a score of 48-50. Ohio Wesleyan was third with 72 points, followed by Denison (87), Wooster (131), Kenyon (153), Wittenberg (206), Earlham (231) and Hiram (258).

The third-place finish was Ohio Wesleyan's best showing in the NCAC championship meet since 1990, when the Bishops also finished third.

Coleman finished fourth among individuals, completing the 6000-meter course in a time of 25:02 to earn first-team All-NCAC honors.

Schmelzer won second-team All-NCAC laurels with a 14th-place finish in 26:00.

Shinn and Binkley were honorable mention All-NCAC finishers by placing 15th and 16th in respective times of 26:01 and 26:03.

Freshman Claire Everhart (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) finished off the Ohio Wesleyan scoring with a 23rd-place finish in 26:24.

Sophomore Valerie Sloboda (Columbia, Md./Atholton) placed 26th in 26:37 and senior Amanda Husted (Springfield/Greenon) was 33rd in 27:14.
