[ A.J. Dote ]Senior first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) lashed a 2-run single to highlight a 4-run fifth inning that lifted Ohio Wesleyan over second-ranked Wooster in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader on Monday in Port Charlotte, Fla.

In the opener, Matthew Johnson's 2-run homer in the second put Wooster ahead to stay and the Fighting Scots went on to win the contest.

The score was tied at 1-1 going into the bottom of the fifth in the nightcap when freshman third baseman Scott Wise (Delaware/Hayes) singled. Senior second baseman Jerrell Johnson (Shaker Heights) was hit by a pitch before senior outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto) walked to load the bases. Dote followed with a 2-run single and 2 more runs followed on Wooster miscues.

McDaniel was 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored for Ohio Wesleyan.

Senior righthander Sean Speed (Cincinnati/St. Xavier) went the distance on the mound for the Bishops.

Johnson's 2-run homer in the bottom of the second gave Wooster a 2-0 lead in the opener, and while Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 2-1 and 3-2, the Bishops could not push the tying run across the plate.

Junior outfielder Matt Rhode (Port Clinton) was 2-for-3 for Ohio Wesleyan, while Johnson went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

Senior righthander Xander Jones (Pomfret, Conn./Pomfret School) pitched the complete game for the Bishops, striking out 9.
