Freshman outfielder Zach Frentsos (Delaware/Hayes) led off the fourth inning with a home run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and junior shortstop Logan Hronis (Rocky River/St. Edward) added a 2-run single later in the frame as Ohio Wesleyan wrapped up its spring trip with a win over ninth-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday in Port Charlotte, Fla.
The Pointers took a 2-0 lead in the first when Brad Archambeau was hit by a pitch, Brad Frank drew a walk, Brandon Scheidler singled in Archambeau and Doug Coe lofted a sacrifice fly to score Frank.
Ohio Wesleyan evened the game in the third as sophomore third baseman Eric McComas (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) led off with a walk, took second on an infield out and scored on a double by senior outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto), then McDaniel scored on a single by senior first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne).
Frentsos's leadoff home run in the fourth gave the Bishops a 3-2 lead. One out later, senior outfielder Brent Wilkins (Fairview Park/Fairview) reached on an error and McComas was hit by a pitch before McDaniel walked to fill the sacks and Hronis drove in Wilkins and McComas with a 2-out single.
McComas and Johnson drove in runs in the fifth to extend the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 7-2, and after the Pointers got one run back in the bottom of the inning on an error, a walk, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly, the Bishops answered with 4 runs in the sixth.
Dote led off the Ohio Wesleyan sixth with a single, and Frentsos drew a 1-out walk before sophomore catcher Steve Ruygrok (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) singled home a run. Wilkins followed single to score Frentsos and McComas doubled home Ruygrok and Wilkins for an 11-3 Bishop lead.
Frentsos went 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored for the Bishops, while McComas drove in 3 runs and Hronis had 2 hits and 2 RBI.
Senior righthander Sean Speed (Cincinnati/St. Xavier) pitched the first 6.0 innings, allowing 5 hits while striking out 6 and walking 2. Junior righthander Greg Vasami (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck) worked the seventh and eighth and sophomore righthander Matthew Struble (Defiance/Edon) pitched the ninth.
