Senior outfielder Brent Wilkins (Fairview Park/Fairview) was hit by a pitch to lead off the 10th inning, and sophomore catcher Steve Ruygrok (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) followed with a fielder's choice, with Wilkins safe at third and Ruygrok checking in at second on Saint pitcher Matt Koch's error on the play. One out later, Turner pinch-hit and singled up the middle to plate both runners.

The Bishops stretched the lead to 6-1 in the fourth. Senior first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) lined a 1-out double and scored on Thomas More first baseman Spencer Franzreb's error on Wilkins's hard-hit grounder. Ruygrok followed with a single to score Wilkins, and Johnson and freshman outfielder Scott Wise (Delaware/Hayes) were hit by pitches to load the bases. Senior outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto) drove in Ruygrok with a sacrifice fly and freshman outfielder Zach Frentsos (Delaware/Hayes) scored Johnson with a single.

Johnny Lee led off the Thomas More fourth with a home run, and the Saints closed to within 6-5 in the fifth with the help of a Franzreb sacrifice fly and a Schmeltzer RBI single.

Sophomore third baseman Eric McComas (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) smashed a 2-run double to give the Bishops an 8-5 lead in the seventh, but Thomas More tied the game with single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth. Jake Brown doubled in a run in the seventh, Marc Price drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, and Schmeltzer's RBI single in the ninth tied the game at 8-8. The game went into extra innings when Frentsos threw out Schmeltzer at the plate trying to score on Marty Kersting's single.
