Muskingum 6, Ohio Wesleyan 5

Senior outfielder Joey McDaniel (Dublin/Scioto) lined an RBI single to cap a 5-run, seventh-inning rally that gave the Bishops a 5-4 lead, but Muskingum rallied to take a non-conference win on Thursday in New Concord.

Trailing, 4-0, after 6 innings, the Bishops opened the seventh with an infield single by junior shortstop Logan Hronis (Rocky River/St. Edward). Hronis moved to second on an infield out by sophomore third baseman Eric McComas (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves), and after senior first baseman A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) struck out for the second out, senior outfielder Brent Wilkins (Fairview Park/Fairview) put the Bishops on the scoreboard with a single that scored Hronis. Senior catcher Eric Stitzlein (Loudonville) followed with a single, and freshman outfielder Scott Wise (Delaware/Hayes) did as well, scoring Wilkins to bring the Bishops within 4-2.

Senior second baseman Jerrell Johnson (Shaker Heights) then smashed a 2-run double to tie the game at 4-4, and McDaniel followed with a single to score Johnson and give the Bishops the lead.

Muskingum's Brock Whiteman led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run to tie game at 5-5.

The Bishops threatened in the eighth and the ninth, getting their leadoff hitter on base in each inning, but were unable to advance the runner in both innings.

In the bottom of the ninth, Erik Spitzer was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and Whiteman followed with a single. Brock Huntsman then forced Spitzer at third, but Adam Smith followed with a single to score Whiteman with the winning run.

The Muskies had taken a 2-0 lead in the first when Wes Carder and Huntsman walked, stole second, then took third and scored on wild pitches. Zac Hampton singled in a run in the second to make it 3-0, and Whiteman scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to give Muskingum a 4-0 lead.

McDaniel, Hronis, Wilkins and Stitzlein each had 2 hits for Ohio Wesleyan.

Junior righthander Greg Vasami (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck), the fourth of 4 Ohio Wesleyan pitchers, was charged with the loss.

Josh Cornwell picked up the win in relief for Muskingum.
