Ohio Wesleyan 3, Hendrix 1
Sept. 2, 2007
Junior
midfielder Shannon McHenry (Powell/Rancho Buena Vista (Calif.)) and freshman
attacker Christa Cocumelli (Dublin/Bishop Watterson) each contributed
a goal and an assist to start Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a non-conference
win over Hendrix on Sunday at Selby Field.
McHenry put the Bishops on the scoreboard just over 6 minutes into the
game, taking a centering pass from Cocumelli and putting it into the back
of the Warrior cage.
McHenry returned the favor 6 minutes later, sending a pass to Cocumelli,
who finished the chance for a 2-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead.
Hendrix closed to within 2-1 with 14:15 left in the first half as Heather
Newell fired a shot at the Bishop cage. Senior goalkeeper Katie Jones
(Pine Plains, N.Y./Stissing Mountain) was there for the save, but Hendrix's
Taylor LaFortune pounced on the rebound and knocked it into the cage for
the score.
Ohio Wesleyan got that goal back midway through the second half when freshman
attacker Lilly Jianas (Shawnee Mission, Kan./Pembroke Hill) tucked an
offensive rebound back into the Hendrix cage.
Hendrix
outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 13-11. Jones
finished with 7 saves for Ohio Wesleyan, while Warrior keeper Alyssa Havens
was credited with 4 saves.
