Kenyon 1, Ohio Wesleyan 0

Sept. 29, 2007

Joy Leaman scored with 6:18 left in regulation time to give Kenyon a win over Ohio Wesleyan in a battle for first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings on Saturday at Selby Field.

The first half was an evenly-played battle, with scoring chances at a premium. Kenyon outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 4-3, during the period, and the Ladies' best chance came after a corner when Kelly Adams and Lauren Keiling got open shots, but Bishop keeper Katie Jones (Pine Plains, N.Y./Stissing Mountain) was there to stop both.

Ohio Wesleyan had the first good chance of the second half as junior midfielder Shannon McHenry (Powell/Rancho Buena Vista (Calif.)) challenged Kenyon goalkeeper Karen Thompson with a shot from the right side, but Thompson blocked the shot near the post to preserve the scoreless tie.

Jones made a spectacular save in the 41st minute, going to her right to turn aside Adams' shot near the left post.

The game-winner came in the 64th minute, when Elisabeth Dow sent the ball in from the left side and Leaman finished off the chance from in front to give the Ladies the lead for good.

Kenyon outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 11-6. Jones finished with 9 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. Thompson had 1 save in the Kenyon cage.
