Ohio Wesleyan 2, Denison 1

Oct. 13, 2007

Junior midfielder Tara Porter (Chicago, Ill./Berkshire (Mass.) School) set up the go-ahead goal and scored what proved to be the game-winner to lift Ohio Wesleyan to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Denison on Saturday in Granville.

The game, originally scheduled to be played at Ohio Wesleyan's Selby Field, was moved to Granville after a gas leak in front of Selby Field threatened to delay the start, if not postpone the game altogether.

The Bishops took a 1-0 lead during the first half when Porter set up freshman attacker Lilly Jianas (Shawnee Mission, Kan./Pembroke Hill), whose shot found the back of the Denison cage.

Porter notched the eventual game-winner early in the second half, taking a pass from junior midfielder Shannon McHenry (Powell/Rancho Buena Vista (Calif.)) and getting the ball past Big Red keeper Halle Minshall.

Denison sliced the deficit to 2-1 in the closing minutes when Carter Hartung scored off a feed from Read Powel, but the Bishop defense was able to close out the game.

Denison outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 14-4. Senior Katie Jones (Pine Plains, N.Y./Stissing Mountain) made 9 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. Minshall finished with 1 save in the Big Red cage.
