Junior Jeff Nieman (Maineville/Cincinnati Moeller) and junior Andy Schillig (Pataskala/Licking
Heights) were leading Ohio Wesleyan after the first round of the GEICO Invitational on Friday in Savannah, Ga.
Skidmore and Saginaw Valley State were leading the tournament, each with a first-round 296. Creighton was in third place with a 300, followed by Bryant (302), USC-Beaufort (303), Ohio Wesleyan, Ferris State and Warner Southern (306), and Findlay (310). Faulkner rounded out the top 10 with a 312, followed by Wright State (317), Savannah State (321), Virginia-Wise (328), West Chester and Webster (330), and North Carolina Wesleyan (343).
Nieman and Schillig were tied for 13th place among individuals, each with a 3-over-par 75. Sophomore Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) and sophomore Tommy Harman (Perrysburg) were tied for 33rd place at 78, and junior Kyle Martin (Dublin/Wellington) was tied for 53rd place with an 80.
Ohio Wesleyan players competing as individuals included sophomore Jordan Benner (Beavercreek), who was tied for 21st place with a 76; and junior Adam Claytor (Columbus/Wellington), who was tied for 26th place at 77.
The tournament's second round is scheduled for later on Friday, with the third round set for Saturday.
