1st of 16 at GEICO Invitational

[ Andy Schillig ]Junior Andy Schillig (Pataskala/Licking Heights) shot a third-round 72 to help Ohio Wesleyan overcome an 8-shot deficit after the second round and win the team title at the GEICO Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Savannah, Ga.

Ohio Wesleyan finished with a 54-hole total of 899 to defeat USC-Beaufort by 5 shots. Creighton was third with a 905, followed by Skidmore (914), Saginaw Valley State, Ferris State and Warner Southern (915), Findlay (922) and Bryant (923). Faulkner rounded out the top 10 with a 925, followed by Wright State (928), Savannah State (933), Webster (977), West Chester (979), North Carolina Wesleyan (987) and Virginia-Wise (990).

Junior Jeff Nieman (Maineville/Cincinnati Moeller) led the Bishops with a 221, finishing in a fourth-place tie among individuals. Sophomore Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) tied for 13th place at 226, Schillig and sophomore Tommy Harman (Perrysburg) tied for 23rd place at 230, and junior Kyle Martin (Dublin/Wellington) tied for 67th place with a 241.

Ohio Wesleyan players competing as individuals included sophomore Jordan Benner (Beavercreek), who tied for 19th place with a 228; and junior Adam Claytor (Columbus/Wellington), who tied for 23rd place at 230.
