1st of 11 at OWU/Strimer Memorial Invitational

[ Jordan Benner ]Sophomore Jordan Benner (Beavercreek) shared medalist honors in leading Ohio Wesleyan to the team title at the Strimer Memorial Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Oakhaven Golf Club.

Ohio Wesleyan won the tournament with a total of 603, defeating Wittenberg by 14 shots. Olivet placed third with a 621, followed by Tri-State (630), Denison (637), DePauw (643), Wabash (651), Wooster (652), Hiram (693), Kenyon (717) and Oberlin (718).

Benner shared medalist honors with Olivet's Joe Kiss, each shooting back-to-back 73s to finish at 146.

Sophomore Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) tied for fourth place among individuals at 149, junior Kyle Martin (Dublin/Wellington) finished eighth with a 153, junior Jeff Nieman (Maineville/Cincinnati Moeller) tied for fifth place with a 155, and junior Andy Schillig (Pataskala/Licking Heights) tied for 32nd place with a 164.

Ohio Wesleyan players competing as individuals included junior Adam Claytor (Columbus/Wellington), who tied for ninth place with a 155; sophomore Tommy Harman (Perrysburg), who tied for 19th place at 159; and sophomore Scott Hassee (Norwalk), who tied for 22nd place with a 161.

The Strimer Memorial Invitational honors the memory of coach Bob Strimer, who was involved in Ohio Wesleyan athletics for over half a century. During his tenure at Ohio Wesleyan, he served as athletics director for 22 years. He also served as head basketball coach, head golf coach, head baseball coach and was an assistant coach in football and track & field. After his retirement, Strimer remained active in athletics, alumni and development affairs for over 2 decades.
