Ohio Wesleyan 76, Kenyon 63

[ Kyle Holliday ]Junior wing Kyle Holliday (Van Wert) scored 5 points during an 11-0 run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and the Bishops pulled away with a 14-2 second-half run on the way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Kenyon on Wednesday in Gambier.

With the game tied at 2-2, senior post Jesse Jean (Alexandria, Va./Hyde (Conn.) School) put the Bishops ahead to stay with a jumper from the lane before Holliday buried a 3-pointer and senior post Dustin Rudegeair (Yellow Springs) followed with a lay-in. Another Holliday basket and a pair of free throws from senior wing Brian Cafarella (Westerville/North) gave Ohio Wesleyan a 13-2 lead just over 5 minutes into the action.

Junior wing Kyle Miller (Delaware/Hayes) added a 3-pointer, Cafarella hit another pair of free throws and freshman post Andrew Martin (New Albany) added a lay-in to extend the Bishop lead to 20-5.

Kenyon came back on the outside shooting of J.T. Knight, who hit a pair of 3-pointers to help the Lords close to within 22-15 with 9:20 left in the first half, and the hosts would remain within striking distance for the remainder of the period, which ended with Ohio Wesleyan holding a 40-32 lead.

Dave Knapke knocked down a jumper to open the second half, bringing Kenyon within 40-34, and the Lords were within 5 points when Bryan Yelvington scored to make it 49-44 with 13:43 left in regulation time.

Senior post Ryan Rozak (Fairview Park/Fairview) started the key Bishop run with a pair of free throws, and Miller followed with a lay-in. After a Kenyon bucket, the Bishops got 3-pointers from junior wing Mitch Noggle (Dublin/Coffman) and sophomore guard Robby Gardiner (Dublin/Coffman) and baskets from Jean and Rudegeair to take a 63-46 lead with 7:04 left in the game, and the lead would remain in double figures for the remainder of the contest.

Rudegeair led the Bishops with 21 points, while Jean finished with 16 points, with the Bishop posts combining to go 17-for-23 from the field. Holliday added 12 points and shared rebounding honors with Rudegeair, each grabbing 9 missed shots. Cafarella, Noggle and Rozak each had 2 assists for Ohio Wesleyan.

Knapke led the Lords with 16 points and 4 rebounds, Korey Haddox added 12 points and 4 rebounds, and Knight finished with 10 points.
