Ohio Wesleyan 75, Allegheny 57

[ Mitch Noggle ]Junior wing Mitch Noggle (Dublin/Coffman) scored 8 points during a 14-3 first-half run that helped Ohio Wesleyan pull away for a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Allegheny on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Senior post Jesse Jean (Alexandria, Va./Hyde (Conn.) School) had a lay-in and senior guard Casey Teeters (Westerville/ Columbus St. Charles) sank a key 3-pointer as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 5-0 run.

Allegheny's Bill Babe hit a 3-pointer to put the Gators on the scoreboard, and Babe knocked down another 3-pointer later in the half, bringing Allegheny within 11-10 with 13:50 left in the period.

The Bishops then took off on a 14-3 run, with Noggle burying a 3-pointer, senior post Ryan Rozak (Fairview Park/Fairview) hitting a jumper from the lane, Jean canning a jumper from the lane, and junior wing Kyle Miller (Delaware/Hayes) scoring on a fast break before Noggle came back with a lay-in and a 3-pointer that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 25-13 lead with 5:02 left in the period.

Babe buried another 3-pointer to get the Gators within 27-18 with less than 3 minutes to play in the half, but the Bishops answered with lay-ins by junior wing Kyle Holliday (Van Wert) and sophomore post Brent Pleiman (Russia), then saw Holliday beat the first-half buzzer with a 3-pointer that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 34-21 lead at the break.

Senior post Dustin Rudegeair (Yellow Springs) had a pair of baskets and Holliday hit another 3-pointer as the Bishops opened the second half with a 7-1 burst and cruised on to the victory.

Noggle led the Bishops with a career-high 15 points, going 5-for-7 from the field, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range. Holliday added 13 points and Teeters led the Bishops with 5 assists.

George Raftis led the Tigers with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Babe and Ben Torsney added 11 points apiece.
