![]() Ohio Wesleyan 86, Wabash 57 Feb. 6, 2008 Wabash had closed to within 7-6 on a jumper by Wesley Smith less than 2 minutes into the game when the Bishops took off on their first run. Senior post Dustin Rudegeair (Yellow Springs) sank a pair of free throws and senior guard Casey Teeters (Westerville/Columbus St. Charles) hit a 3-pointer before Holliday collected a lay-in, a tip-in and a jumper from the lane to give Ohio Wesleyan an 18-9 lead exactly 7 minutes into the contest. It was still a 9-point game after Wabash's Earl Rooks hit a jumper from the lane to bring the Little Giants within 24-15 with 7:09 left in the first half. Teeters knocked down another 3-pointer to start the second Bishop spurt. Senior post Jesse Jean (Alexandria, Va./Hyde (Conn.) School) and Rudegeair followed with 2 buckets apiece, senior post Ryan Rozak (Fairview Park/Fairview) added a pair of free throws, and Holliday's 3-point play on the fast break stretched the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 40-17 with 3:07 to play in the period. Wabash rallied by closing the half with an 8-2 run that included a pair of free throws and a lay-in by Smith, and a steal by Andrew Zimmer on the opening possession of the second half led to a pair of Gary Simkus free throws, bringing the Little Giants within 42-27. Ohio Wesleyan scored the next 7 points, getting a 3-point play by Rudegeair, a 3-pointer by Teeters and a free throw from Holliday to stretch the lead to 49-27 with 16:53 left in regulation time. Chase Haltom's 3-pointer brought Wabash within 54-37 with 11:33 to go, but that was as close as the Little Giants would come. Jean led the Bishops with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Teeters finished with 16 points, Holliday had 12 points and a team-leading 4 assists, and Rudegeair also scored 12 points. Zimmer led the Little Giants with 15 points and 7 rebounds, while Smith added 12 points. |
