Salisbury 14, Ohio Wesleyan 10

March 9, 2008

[ Steve Fowler ]Senior midfielder Steve Fowler (Wilton, Conn.) scored a man-up goal as Ohio Wesleyan pulled to within 5-4 late in the first half, but defending national champion Salisbury answered with a goal, then opened the second half with a 5-1 run and went on to defeat the Bishops in non-conference action on Sunday in Salisbury, Md.

Ohio Wesleyan's 10 goals in the game marked the most allowed by Salisbury since May 28, 2006, a span of 30 games.

The Sea Gulls took a 2-0 lead on a man-up goal by Patrick Bonanno and an unassisted score by Bruce Richardson, the latter with 7:46 left in the first half.

Ohio Wesleyan answered just 16 seconds later, as sophomore midfielder Robb Shrader (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) found sophomore midfielder Rob Young (Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock South) for a goal that brought the Bishops within 2-1.

Stephen Krasco and Mike Von Kamecke followed with goals for a 4-1 Salisbury lead early in the second quarter, but again the Bishops had an answer, with senior attacker Harrison Iuliano (Mendham, N.J./Blair Academy) and senior midfielder Grant Ditty (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) scoring goals just 16 seconds apart to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 4-3.

Greg Titus's goal gave the Sea Gulls a 5-3 lead before Fowler's man-up goal with 4:07 left in the second quarter made it a 5-4 game.

Titus scored with 1:24 left in the first half for a 6-4 Salisbury advantage, and after the Sea Gulls' Matt Hickman and junior attacker Nick Gallagher (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) traded goals to open the third quarter, Salisbury reeled off 4 straight scores in a span of less than 2 minutes, with Kylor Berkman, Hickman, Bonanno and Jake DeLillo contributing the goals, to stretch its lead to 11-5.

Senior midfielder Chris Eccles (Secane, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and senior midfielder Trevor Jones (Flanders, N.J./West Morris Mendham) had goals to close out the third quarter as Ohio Wesleyan rallied to within 11-7, but that 4-goal margin was as close as the Bishops would come.

Eccles led the Bishops with 3 goals and an assist. Iuliano scored 2 goals and Fowler finished with a goal and 2 assists.

Senior Ryan Perone (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) went the distance in the Bishop goal, making 18 saves.

Titus led the Sea Gulls with 3 goals, while Berkman added 2 goals and 3 assists. Riley Clark finished with 10 saves in the Salisbury goal.
