Ohio Wesleyan 17, St. Vincent 2

[ Chris Ehlinger ]Sophomore attacker Chris Ehlinger (Radnor, Pa.) and sophomore midfielder Rob Young (Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock South) led the Ohio Wesleyan offense as the Bishops defeated St. Vincent in non-conference action on Saturday in Latrobe, Pa.

Senior attacker Harrison Iuliano (Mendham, N.J./Blair Academy) put the Bishops on the scoreboard less than a minute into the game, and found sophomore attacker Gavin Cunningham (Rye, N.Y) for a man-up score midway through the first period as Ohio Wesleyan took a 2-0 lead.

Ehlinger followed with a pair of goals just 30 seconds apart, the latter assisted by senior midfielder Chris Eccles (Secane, Pa./Monsignor Bonner), to stretch the Bishop lead to 4-0.

Pat Bursch tallied an unassisted goal to bring the Bearcats within 4-1 with 5:51 left in the first quarter, but Ohio Wesleyan put the game out of reach by scoring the next 5 goals, with senior midfielder Trevor Jones (Flanders, N.J./West Morris Mendham) scoring 3 of those.

Young racked up a goal to finish off the first-half scoring, with the Bishops taking a 10-2 lead into the locker room, and the Bishops blanked the Bearcats during the second half to pull away for the win.

Ehlinger led the Bishops with 4 goals and an assist, while Young finished with 3 goals and 2 assists. Jones scored 3 times, Cunningham had 2 goals and Eccles dished out 3 assists.

Senior Ryan Perone (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) stopped 7 shots during the first half in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. Freshman Jud Hall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) posted 7 saves during his 26-plus minutes of action, and neither freshman Andrew Busweiler (West Islip, N.Y) nor freshman Frankie Weschler (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) were tested during their fourth-quarter stints in the Bishop goal.
