Ohio Wesleyan 1, Wilmington 0
Sept. 11, 2007
Freshman midfielder Chad Baker (Dublin/Jerome) scored with 1:23 left in regulation time to give Ohio Wesleyan a non-conference win over Wilmington on Tuesday at Roy Rike Field.
Baker eluded a Wilmington defender on the left end line, turned inside and zipped a shot past Quaker keeper Aaron Slusher to break the scoreless tie.
Wilmington had the early edge in offensive play, with Nick Kinder getting off a pair of shots during the first 10 minutes, but Ohio Wesleyan keeper Jamison Dague (Bexley) was there both times.
Ohio Wesleyan threatened in the closing minutes of the first half as freshman forward Tyler Bryant (Chillicothe/Unioto) had his shot saved by Slusher at the left post in the 27th minute, and again in the 38th minute when Slusher tapped a restart by senior
midfielder Nick Skoczen (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) over the crossbar.
Both teams assembled a few chances during the second half, Wilmington's best coming in the 83rd minute.
With a restart from about 35 yards, the Quakers' Daniel Givens launched a shot on goal that Dague had to leap to tip over the crossbar. After the ensuing corner kick, the teams battled for the ball before Wilmington's Caleb Paulino sent a header on goal that Dague grabbed to preserve the tie.
Ohio
Wesleyan outshot Wilmington, 18-11. Dague went the distance in the Bishop goal,
finishing with 6 saves. Slusher stopped 5 shots in the Wilmington goal.
