Ohio Northern 4, Ohio Wesleyan 3

Sept. 26, 2007

Freshman midfielder Chad Baker (Dublin/Jerome) and senior midfielder Nick Skoczen (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) scored as Ohio Wesleyan wiped out a 2-0 deficit, and freshman forward Tyler Bryant (Chillicothe/Unioto) scored to send the game into overtime, but Ohio Northern got the game-winner in the second overtime to take a non-conference decision on Wednesday in Ada.

The Polar Bears took a 1-0 lead with just over 5 minutes remaining in the first half when Ben Jackson headed home a throw-in from Dan Otanicar.

Ohio Northern extended its lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute when Nick Farmwald finished a chance from point-blank range. Brian Bolibrzuch and Adam Ross were credited with assists on the play.

Down to their final 10 minutes, the Bishops rallied.

Baker brought Ohio Wesleyan within 2-1 with a header off a crossing pass from Skoczen. Sophomore forward Sam Striler (St. Louis, Mo./Country Day), who had played the ball ahead to Skoczen, also was credited with an assist on the play, which came with 9:57 left in regulation time.

Skoczen evened the game at 2-2 with a deflection off a penalty kick with 5:06 remaining in regulation time.

Ohio Northern re-took the lead when Ben Tarkany scored off a deflection with 3:13 to go, with Bolibrzuch given an assist on the play.

Once again, the Bishops bounced back, tying the game just 23 seconds later when Bryant headed home a crossing pass from sophomore midfielder Phil Serfaty (Dublin/Jerome) to tie the game at 3-3.

Ohio Wesleyan enjoyed a 7-0 advantage in shots during the first overtime period, but could not translate that edge into the game-winning goal.

The Polar Bears took the win 27 seconds into the second overtime period, when Ross hit a shot from 10 yards out that glanced off Bishop keeper Jamison Dague (Bexley) and into the net.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Ohio Northern, 28-21. Dague made 3 saves for Ohio Wesleyan, while David Esser finished with 9 saves for Ohio Northern.
