![]() Kenyon 1, Ohio Wesleyan 0 Oct. 2, 2007 The loss ended Ohio Wesleyan's 28-game unbeaten streak in North Coast Athletic Conference competition. The Bishops' last loss in conference play came on Sept. 29, 2004, when Ohio Wesleyan lost at Wooster. Kenyon, the highest-scoring team in the NCAC this season, threatened from the opening kick. Barrera launched a shot in the first 30 seconds of play that Bishop keeper Jamison Dague (Bexley) stopped, and the Lords nearly broke on top just over a minute later when Nate Pritchard had an open look in the box but sent a shot just outside the left post. Ohio Wesleyan's best opportunity of the first half came in the 38th minute, when junior back T.J. Trigg (Westerville/North) put a 35-yard direct kick on goal, with Lord keeper Jamie White snaring the ball for the save. The Lords took the lead in the 74th minute when Pritchard sent the ball into the box from the right side and Barrera squeezed off a shot that found the back of the Bishop net. The Bishops turned up the pressure in an effort to tie the score. Less than a minute after Kenyon scored, freshman back Eric Laipple (Westerville/South) had his header from close range tipped over the crossbar by White. In the 82nd minute, White came off the goal line to break up a crossing pass from junior forward Todd Ufferman (Delaware/Hayes). The ball continued across the box to the left side to freshman midfielder Chad Baker (Dublin/Jerome), who had a brief look at an open net, but the Kenyon defense recovered to block the shot. Freshman midfielder Ryan Harmanis (Hilliard/Davidson) saw his header float over the crossbar in the 87th minute, and senior midfielder Nick Skoczen (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) skipped a shot across the goal mouth and wide left in the 90th minute. Ohio
Wesleyan outshot Kenyon, 10-9. Dague finished with 2 saves, while White had 5 saves for Kenyon. |
