Ohio Wesleyan 2, Wooster 1

Oct. 12, 2007

[ Will Murawski ]Sophomore midfielder Will Murawski (Alpharetta, Ga./Westerville North) scored the game-winning goal early in the second overtime to give Ohio Wesleyan a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wooster on Friday at Roy Rike Field.

Sophomore midfielder Jordan Halloran (Springfield/Catholic Central) sent the ball into the box from the left side, and Murawski stuffed the ball inside the right post to end the game.

Ohio Wesleyan had sent the game into overtime with a goal with :31 left in regulation time. Freshman midfielder Chad Baker (Dublin/Jerome) served the ball into the box from the left side. The ball glanced off a Wooster defender and to freshman forward Tyler Bryant (Chillicothe/Unioto), who found the back of the net to wipe out a 1-0 deficit.

Most of the first half was played in the Wooster end. Ohio Wesleyan racked up 13 shots but could not solve Fighting Scot keeper Patryk Tenorio, who made 4 saves. The Bishops' best chances came in the sixth minute, when Tenorio grabbed Halloran's header near the left post; and midway through the half, when Murawski had a pair of shots saved by Tenorio in a span of 90 seconds.

Wooster's best look at the Ohio Wesleyan goal came in the 33rd minute, when Josh Madson ran the ball up the left side, but his shot hit the side of the net.

Jordan O'Boyle came on to mind the Wooster net for the second half, and he proved to be just as effective as Tenorio. Just 90 seconds into the half, senior midfielder Nick Skoczen (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) squeezed off a shot off a centering pass from freshman back Eric Laipple (Westerville/South), but O'Boyle was there for the save.

O'Boyle stopped a shot by Laipple off a Bishop corner kick in the 53rd minute, and less than 2 minutes later, freshman forward Tyler Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) appeared to have beaten O'Boyle but saw his shot hit the left post.

Wooster took advantage of its best chance of the evening. In the 75th minute, Karl Ruter fired a shot which deflected off an Ohio Wesleyan defender and over the end line for a Fighting Scot corner kick. Trevor Day sent the ball into the box and Warren Swegal came in from the right side and finished the chance to give Wooster a 1-0 lead.

The Bishops turned up the pressure in an effort to get the tying goal. Bryant took a through ball and fired a shot which O'Boyle stopped in the 81st minute. The post was unkind to Ohio Wesleyan again in the 88th minute when Wall fielded a pass and hit a shot hard off the pipe. O'Boyle preserved the lead one last time with 1:27 remaining, grabbing an 18-yard shot by Baker, before the final seconds of regulation.

Neither team was able to assemble a dangerous chance during the first overtime, with the only shot during the period a 30-yard rocket off the foot of Laipple which lined just over the crossbar.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wooster, 31-5. Senior Jamison Dague (Bexley) faced only 1 shot on goal, while Tenorio and O'Boyle each finished with 4 saves for Wooster.
