Ohio Wesleyan 2, Wittenberg 0

Oct. 26, 2007

Senior midfielder Patrick Moore (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) scored the game-winning goal and freshman midfielder Chad Baker (Dublin/Jerome) set up both goals as Ohio Wesleyan blanked Wittenberg in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Friday at Roy Rike Field.

The win knocked Wittenberg out of a tie for first place in the NCAC standings and guaranteed Ohio Wesleyan a home game on Wednesday in the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Ohio Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when Baker moved the ball into the box from the right side and got it to Moore near the top of the box. Moore's shot appeared to glance off a Wittenberg defender before going into the left side of the Tiger goal.

Wittenberg keeper Ben McAnnis-Entenman kept the Tigers close, making a diving save of a shot by sophomore midfielder Will Murawski (Alpharetta, Ga./Westerville North) in the 42nd minute. Less than a minute later, Murawski wound up again, but his shot from the top of the penalty area hit the left post.

The Bishops struck early in the second half, with freshman defender Brian Greene (Beavercreek) sending a long ball ahead to Baker on the right side. Baker played the ball back toward the middle to sophomore midfielder Jordan Halloran (Springfield/Catholic Central), who finished the chance for a 2-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

Ohio Wesleyan nearly made it 3-0 in the 61st minute when freshman back Eric Laipple (Westerville/South) lined up for a restart and launched a 25-yard rocket which bounced hard off the right post.

Wittenberg threatened in the closing minutes of regulation time, with Matt Borland winding up for a shot from about 30 yards out, only to see senior goalkeeper Jamison Dague (Bexley) make the save.

The Tigers threatened again in the 90th minute as Brian Glenn's redirect off a Wittenberg throw-in carried just over the crossbar.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wittenberg, 17-11. Dague finished with 4 saves for Ohio Wesleyan, while McAnnis-Entenman had 7 saves for the Tigers.
