Sophomores Kevin Fahey (Delaware/Hayes), Jaimito Fuentes (Massillon/Glen Oak), Nathaniel Cook
(Delaware/Hayes) and David Gatz (Delaware/Hayes) won an event to lead
Ohio Wesleyan at the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays meet hosted
by Kenyon College on Saturday in Gambier.
The annual lidlifter of the swimming season, the meet consists of relay
events and is scored similarly to the conference championship meet. Kenyon edged Denison
by a score of 176-174 to take the team title. Wabash was third
with 140 points and Wooster placed fourth with 88 points. Wittenberg
(68), Hiram (64), Ohio Wesleyan (54), Allegheny (38) and Oberlin (34)
completed the team scores.
Swimming results
Fahey, Fuentes, Cook and Gatz combined to win the 200 breaststroke relay in 1:51.18, defeating second-place Kenyon by nearly two-tenths of a second. The foursome finished second in the 200 breaststroke relay at last year's NCAC Relays meet.
Gatz, Fuentes and Fahey combined with sophomore Usman Javaid (Lahore, Pakistan/Aitchison) to finish 13th in the 500 crescendo relay and the 400 IM relay as well as 16th in the 200 freestyle relay and 17th in the 200 medley relay.
Cook, Fahey, Gatz and Javaid combined to finish 18th in the 200 butterfly relay.
Other standouts for the Bishops included sophomore Christopher Potterton (Needham, Mass.), sophomore Andrew Sisson (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and sophomore Tony Wong (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights), who combined to placed 18th in the 1500 freestyle relay; and senior Chris Rasch (Fairfield), sophomore Tyler Laws (Lewis Center/Olentangy), sophomore Kuang-Ting Hsu (Taipei, Taiwan/National Experimental) and Wong, who teamed to place 23rd in the 200 backstroke relay.
