1st of 6 at Greater Columbus Invitational

[ Nathan Osborn ]Junior Nathan Osborn (Edgerton) won an event and helped a relay team take a first-place finish to lead Ohio Wesleyan to the title at the Greater Columbus Invitational, hosted by Otterbein College on Saturday in Westerville.

Ohio Wesleyan won the meet with 181 points to 108 for second-place Otterbein. Capital finished third with 77 points, followed by Denison (60), Muskingum (48) and Kenyon (21).

Osborn won the 200-meter dash in a time of :23.18 and added a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash. He also anchored the first-place 800-meter relay team, combining with junior Ryan Ellis (Columbus/Dublin Scioto), freshman Sean Patrick (Delaware/Hayes) and freshman Jordan Exeter (Toronto, Ontario/Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy) to break the tape in 1:31.46.

Also winning events for Ohio Wesleyan were sophomore Kyle Faris (Olmsted Falls), who won the weight throw with a heave of 39-5 3/4 and finished second in the shot put; junior Preston Osborn (Edgerton), who won the 400-meter dash in :51.09 and placed third in the 200-meter dash; Exeter, who won the long jump with a leap of 20-9 and added a fourth in the 55-meter dash; and sophomore Steve Brown (Redford Township, Mich./Redford), who won the 55-meter hurdles in :08.04.

Other standouts for the Bishops included Patrick, who finished second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 55-meter dash; junior Andrew Bloom (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne), who was second in the 55-meter hurdles and fifth in the high jump; freshman Cody Morrison (Caldwell), who placed second in the 5000-meter run; junior Alex Havran (Woodinville, Wash./Overlake), who was second in the mile run; junior Garret Andre-Johnson (Walnut Creek, Calif./Berkeley), who placed second in the 800-meter run; freshman John Thatcher (Centerburg), who finished second in the 3000-meter run; junior David Stefanik (Wooster), who finished third in the mile and 3000-meter runs; freshman Parone Mulrain (Chicago, Ill./Latin School), who placed third in the long jump and the triple jump; junior Bobby Polley (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), who was third in the weight throw; senior Michael Tornifolio (Stow), who tied for third in the pole vault; junior Jon Smith (Clyde/Bellevue), who tied for third in the pole vault; sophomore Bryce Mathias (Centerburg), who was fourth in the 400-meter dash and sixth in the 55-meter hurdles; junior Gary Brenneman (Fredericktown), who placed fourth in the mile run; sophomore Christian Schlabach (Wooster/Triway), who was fourth in the 800-meter run; freshman Kody Law (Reynoldsburg), who placed fourth in the 200-meter dash; freshman Jack Schemenauer (Luckey/Eastwood), who finished fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the 400-meter dash; freshman Jon Boll (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), who was fifth in the 300-meter dash and sixth in the 500-meter run; freshman Kyle Herman (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls), who finished fifth in the 800-meter run; and sophomore Matthew MacKenzie (Franklin, Mass.), who was sixth in the 800-meter run.

The Bishop 1600-meter relay team of Herman, freshman Jeff Driscoll (Shreve/Triway), Havran and MacKenzie finished third.
