1st of 13 at Marv Frye Invitational

[ David Burke ]Sophomore David Burke (Hudson) won 2 events and added a second-place finish to lead the Bishops to the team title at the Marv Frye Invitational on Saturday at the George Gauthier Track.

Ohio Wesleyan compiled 172 1/2 points to 86 for Thiel. Rhodes finished third with 63 points, followed by Baldwin-Wallace (55), Rose-Hulman (54 1/2), Muskingum (53 1/2), Wilmington (47 1/2), Albion (41), Otterbein (40), Oberlin (37 1/2), Wittenberg (37), Bluffton (31) and Capital (22 1/2).

Burke won the long jump and the triple jump with respective leaps of 21-11 1/2 and 44-10 1/4. He also finished second in the high jump.

Junior Ryan Ellis (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) and freshman Jack Schemenauer (Luckey/Eastwood) also won events for Ohio Wesleyan. Ellis won the 100-meter dash in :11.08 and finished second in the 200-meter dash. He also teamed with freshman Sean Patrick (Delaware/Hayes), junior Nathan Osborn (Edgerton) and freshman Jordon Exeter (Toronto, Ontario/Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy) to win the 400-meter relay in :42.85.

Schemenauer won the 400-meter hurdles in :55.69 and finished second in the 110-meter hurdles.

Other standouts for the Bishops included junior Preston Osborn (Edgerton), who finished second in the 400-meter hurdles; junior Garret Andre-Johnson (Walnut Creek, Calif./Berkeley), who was second in the 800-meter run; Patrick, who placed third in the 100- and 200-meter dashes; sophomore Bryce Mathias (Centerburg), who was third in the 400-meter hurdles; freshman Parone Mulrain (Chicago, Ill./Latin School), who finished fourth in the triple jump; junior David Stefanik (Wooster), who was fourth in the 1500-meter run; sophomore Steve Brown (Redford Township, Mich./Redford), who placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles; Exeter, who finished fifth in the long jump and the 100-meter dash; junior Alex Havran (Woodinville, Wash./Overlake), who was fifth in the javelin and sixth in the 800-meter run; sophomore Kyle Faris (Olmsted Falls), who placed fifth in the hammer and seventh in the shot put; junior Clay Davis (Dublin/Coffman), who placed fifth in the 5000-meter run; junior Jon Smith (Clyde/Bellevue), who was sixth in the pole vault; junior Andrew Bloom (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne), who finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles; senior Joe Berlyoung (Elyria/Avon), who was sixth in the 400-meter dash; and senior Pete MacLeod (Hudson), who was sixth in the 5000-meter run.

The Bishop 1600-meter relay team of Ellis, Nathan Osborn, Mathias and Preston Osborn finished second.
