1st of 20 at All-Ohio Division III championship

[ Preston Osborn ]The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of junior Ryan Ellis (Columbus/Dublin Scioto), junior Nathan Osborn (Edgerton), freshman Sean Patrick (Delaware/Hayes) and junior Preston Osborn (Edgerton) won the day's final event to give the Bishops the team title at the All-Ohio Division III championship meet on Saturday at the George Gauthier Track.

Ohio Wesleyan edged Mount Union in the team standings, 103-100 1/2. Heidelberg was third with 97 1/2 points, followed by Ohio Northern (94), Baldwin-Wallace (54), John Carroll (43), Otterbein (36), Denison (30) and Muskingum (29). Marietta rounded out the top 10 with 28 points, followed by Defiance (25 1/2), Wilmington (25), Bluffton (23), Wittenberg and Wooster (21), Capital (13 1/2), Kenyon (10), Oberlin and Mount St. Joseph (9) and Lake Erie (2).

The 1600-meter relay team claimed Ohio Wesleyan's only first-place finish of the meet, but it could not have come at a better time. With Ohio Wesleyan trailing, 100 1/2-93, going into the meet's final event, the Bishops won the 1600-meter relay in a time of 3:20.95 to score 10 points and take the team title.

Other standouts for Ohio Wesleyan included junior David Stefanik (Wooster), who was second in the 3000-meter steeplechase and fourth in the 5000-meter run; sophomore David Burke (Hudson), who finished second in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump; sophomore Steve Brown (Redford Township, Mich./Redford), who placed second in the 110-meter hurdles; Preston Osborn, who was second in the 400-meter dash; junior Clay Davis (Dublin/Coffman), who placed second in the 10,000-meter run; Ellis, who was third in the 200-meter dash; freshman Jordon Exeter (Toronto, Ontario/Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy), who finished third in the 100-meter dash; junior Alex Havran (Woodinville, Wash./Overlake), who was fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase and the javelin; junior Andrew Bloom (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne), who finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles; freshman Jack Schemenauer (Luckey/Eastwood), who placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles; and Patrick, who was sixth in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
