at NCAC championship

[ Andrew Bloom ]Sophomore David Burke (Hudson) won a conference championship to lead Ohio Wesleyan during the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet on Thursday at Selby Field and the George Gauthier Track.

After the first day of competition, Allegheny was leading the meet with 59 points to 56 for Ohio Wesleyan. Wabash was in third place with 32 points, followed by Oberlin (27), Earlham and Wooster (24), Wittenberg (12) and Denison, Hiram and Kenyon (0). Thursday Results

Burke won the long jump with a leap of 22-2 1/2.

Senior Joshua Steinke (Wapakoneta) and junior Clay Davis (Dublin/Coffman) also earned All-NCAC honors, Steinke with a second-place finish in the discus and Davis with a third-place finish in the 10,000-meter run.

Other standouts for the Bishops included sophomore Kyle Faris (Olmsted Falls), who placed fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put; junior Jon Smith (Clyde/Bellevue), who finished fifth in the pole vault; freshman Jon Voiles (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), who was seventh in the pole vault; and senior Pete MacLeod (Hudson), who was eighth in the 10,000-meter run.

Junior Ryan Ellis (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) had the meet's best time in the preliminaries of both the 200- and 400-meter dashes, while freshman Jordon Exeter (Toronto, Ontario/Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy) had the best time in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash.
