Eight Bishops Named NCAC Athletes of Week

[ Ryan Ellis ]DELAWARE, OHIO -- Eight Ohio Wesleyan University student-athletes have been named North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 4, it was announced by the NCAC.

The Ohio Wesleyan men's and women's 1600-meter relay teams each shared Sprinter/Hurdler of the Week honors for their performances in the NCAC Relays meet on Saturday.

The Bishop men's 1600-meter relay team of junior Ryan Ellis (Columbus/Dublin Scioto), junior Nathan Osborn (Edgerton), junior Preston Osborn (Edgerton) and sophomore Bryce Mathias (Centerburg) won its event in 3:26.28, breaking the school and meet record of 3:26.30 set by Matt Churpek, Adam Torrence, Jason Martin and Tyler Stillman in 1999. The first-place finish helped Ohio Wesleyan win the NCAC Relays meet, the Bishops' second NCAC Relays title in the last 3 seasons.

The women's 1600-meter relay team of freshman Lainey Kekic (Canfield/Western Reserve), freshman Rachael Newman (Strongsville), sophomore Casey Ridgeway (Fredericktown) and sophomore Kara Reiter (Chardon) won its event in 4:11.97, helping the Bishops win their second consecutive NCAC Relays championship.
