[ Tara VanVranken ]Freshman outfielder Tara VanVranken (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) plated the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning, but Olivet rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the frame to edge Ohio Wesleyan on Monday in Fort Myers, Fla.

Ohio Wesleyan took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth. Sophomore outfielder Krystle Skaziak (Dublin/Scioto) was placed on second base per international tiebreaking procedures. Sophomore shortstop Amanda Sanders (Lima/Bath) followed with a single to center, sending Skaziak to third, and VanVranken delivered a fly ball to center to score Skaziak.

In a steadily increasing drizzle, the Comets answered in the bottom of the inning. Kacey Darling was placed on second and Cassie Bowerman followed with a bloop single to right, sending Darling to third. Darling scored on a wild pitch by sophomore lefthander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe), with Bowerman taking third on the play, and after a walk to Christine Cameron, Bowerman scored on a wild pitch to end the game.

Olivet had taken a 1-0 lead in the first on Darling's RBI single and increased the margin to 2-0 in the third when Anna Braner reached on an error by sophomore first baseman Catrice Mayweather (Lewis Center/Olentangy), took second on a sacrifice, stole third and continued home on a throwing error by senior catcher Miranda Simmons (Norwalk).

The Bishops answered with a pair of runs in the fourth, with VanVranken and Simmons opening the inning with singles. One out later, sophomore third baseman Rita Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) singled to left, scoring VanVranken, and Simmons came all the way around to score when Comet leftfielder Heidi Wear misplayed the ball.

Simmons paced the Bishop offense with 2 hits.
