March 12, 2008

[ Catrice Mayweather ]Sophomore righthander Catrice Mayweather (Lewis Center/Olentangy) singled home a run that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 1-0 first-inning lead, but Wheaton scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth and went on to defeat the Bishops on Wednesday in Cape Coral, Fla.

Ohio Wesleyan jumped to a 1-0 lead when freshman outfielder Tara VanVranken (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) lined a 2-out single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and after senior catcher Miranda Simmons (Norwalk) was hit by a pitch, scored on Mayweather's single up the middle.

The Lyons took the lead in the fourth as Stacey Kelleher singled with one out and moved to second on a sacrifice by Nicole DeRosa. After pinch-runner Jodi Moynagh moved to third on a wild pitch, Kristen Hunt lofted a foul ball which was dropped by Simmons, and Hunt took advantage of the reprieve by lashing an inside-the-park home run to make it 2-1.

Wheaton tacked on a run in the fifth on Audrey Poulton's RBI single.

Mayweather paced the Bishop offense by going 3-for-3 with an RBI. She also pitched the complete game, striking out 4.
