[ Miranda Simmons ]Senior catcher Miranda Simmons (Norwalk) and sophomore outfielder Sarah Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) drove in runs that gave the Bishops a 3-1 fourth-inning lead, but Muskingum rallied to take the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday in New Concord.

In the opener, Muskingum's Amy Mattin fired a 2-hit shutout and Jamie Echelberger launched a 2-run homer to help the Muskies take the win.

Sophomore first baseman Catrice Mayweather (Lewis Center/Olentangy) staked Ohio Wesleyan to a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap when she launched her second home run of the season.

Muskingum evened the game in the third on Echelberger's RBI single, but the Bishops bounced back with a pair of runs in the fourth.

Freshman outfielder Tara VanVranken (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) ripped a one-out double and scored when Simmons followed with a double. After an intentional pass to Mayweather, sophomore third baseman Rita Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) moved the runners over with an infield out before Sarah Cook singled home Simmons for a 3-1 lead, with Mayweather thrown out at home on the play.

The Muskies rallied to tie the game in the fifth on Echelberger's RBI double and an RBI ground out off the bat of Heather Fields.

Musking took the lead in the sixth as Debbie Warner led off with a single and moved to second on a bunt single by Katie Reese. After the runners moved up on an infield out by Mallory Hay, Warner scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Sophomore lefthander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) pitched the complete game for the Bishops, striking out 2.

Mattin, who had pitched the complete game in the opener, was credited with the win after coming on in the fifth and pitching 3.0 innings of hitless relief.

In the opener, the Muskies took a 4-run lead with the help of a 2-run double by Kelli Mann and a 2-run single by Jessica Bosway. Echelberger's 2-run homer in the sixth capped the Muskingum scoring.

Mayweather pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan.
