Sophomore shortstop Amanda Sanders (Lima/Bath) singled home a run in the top of the eighth to give Ohio Wesleyan a 7-6 lead, but Alma rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to escape with a win in a non-conference game on Saturday in Granville.
The Bishops had wiped out a 6-2 deficit in the seventh inning, tallying 4 times to send the game into extra innings. Sophomore outfielder Krystle Skaziak (Dublin/Scioto) and sophomore second baseman Emily Bradley (Columbus/Upper Arlington) opened the inning with singles, and after Sanders and freshman outfielder Tara VanVranken (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) struck out, senior catcher Miranda Simmons (Norwalk) delivered a single to slice the margin to 6-3. Sophomore first baseman Catrice Mayweather (Lewis Center/Olentangy) kept the inning alive by reaching on a Fighting Scot error before sophomore third baseman Rita Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) singled home 2 runs and sophomore outfielder Sarah Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) followed with a single to score Mayweather with the tying run.
Freshman catcher Sarah Truchan (Brunswick) was placed on second to open the eighth, and she moved over to third on Skaziak's infield out before Sanders delivered an RBI single for a 7-6 Ohio Wesleyan lead.
Alma answered in the bottom of the inning as Kelly Koenigsknecht was placed on second and, after Missy Morcom struck out, Kasey Miller drew a walk and Amy Gaudard laid down a bunt single to load the bases. Sophomore lefthander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) bounced back and retired Houston Verbeck on an infield popup, but Brittany Fales followed with a single to plate the tying and winning runs.
The Fighting Scots had built a 4-0 lead with the help of RBI doubles off the bats of Verbeck, Gaudard and Morcom.
Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 4-2 in the sixth on Sarah Cook's 2-run single, but Alma got those runs back in the bottom of the inning, with Morcom smacking another RBI double.
Sarah Cook drove in 3 runs for the Bishops, while Simmons collected 3 hits.
Mayweather started in the circle for Ohio Wesleyan, pitching the first 6.0 innings. Seibel came on in the seventh and was charged with the loss in relief.
