[ Sarah Cook ]Sophomore outfielder Sarah Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) drove in 6 runs and sophomore lefthander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) and sophomore righthander Catrice Mayweather (Lewis Center/Olentangy) fired back-to-back 1-hitters as Ohio Wesleyan swept Oberlin in a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday at Hayes High School in Delaware.

Ohio Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener when sophomore second baseman Emily Bradley (Columbus/Upper Arlington) led off with a walk, stole second, moved to third on an infield out and scored on a single by freshman outfielder Tara VanVranken (North Canton/Massillon Jackson).

Meanwhile, Seibel was virtually unhittable, striking out the first 5 Yeowomen batters she faced. The only hit Seibel allowed was a one-out single to left by Julia Chauvin in the fourth inning.

Ohio Wesleyan built its lead to 4-0 in the third, with senior catcher Miranda Simmons (Norwalk) and Mayweather slamming consecutive RBI doubles before Cook lined an RBI single.

Cook singled in 2 more runs in the fifth and ended the game with an RBI double in the sixth that stretched the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 8-0. She went 3-for-4 and drove in 4 runs in the contest. Simmons went 3-for-3 and Mayweather scored 3 runs.

Seibel, who also struck out the last 5 Oberlin batters she faced, finished with 14 strikeouts, just one off the school record she set against Salem State earlier this season.

Michelle Zanni pitched the complete game for the Yeowomen.

In the nightcap, the Bishops took a 1-0 run in the second as Mayweather led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on Cook's RBI double.

Ohio Wesleyan broke the game open with a 9-run explosion in the fourth. Simmons had a 2-run single in the inning, Cook added an RBI single, sophomore second baseman Devon Walker (Baltimore/Watkins Memorial) had 2 hits, including an RBI single, sophomore outfielder Amanda Sanders (Lima/Bath) doubled in a run and freshman outfielder Kayla Gordon (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) belted an RBI double for her first collegiate hit.

Mayweather worked the complete game, allowing only a leadoff single to Zanni in the fourth inning. She fanned 9 Oberlin batters, striking out the side in the third and fifth innings.

Jennifer Sees pitched the complete game for Oberlin.
