Notre Dame's Meredith Harbarger and Katie Lapczenski threw back-to-back shutouts as the Falcons swept a non-conference doubleheader from Ohio Wesleyan on Thursday at Margaret Sagan Field.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener as Anna Ball walked and both runners were safe on a fielder's choice on Evelien Vonk's bunt. One out later, Jill Gigliotti doubled to right center to score Ball.
Gigliotti added a 2-run double in the fifth to provide Harbarger some insurance.
The Bishops got their first 2 batters on base in both the first and sixth innings, but both times, Harbarger was able to escape from the jam.
Sophomore lefthander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan, striking out 6 and walking 3.
In the nightcap, Jessica Simmons and Gigliotti plated runs as the Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the first, and Notre Dame added runs in the third and fourth innings.
Senior catcher Miranda Simmons (Norwalk) and sophomore righthander Catrice Mayweather (Lewis Center/Olentangy) each had 2 hits for Ohio Wesleyan. Mayweather pitched the complete game, striking out 3 and walking 1.
