![]() Denison 5, Ohio Wesleyan 0 May 2, 2008 Second-seeded Ohio Wesleyan will face top-seeded Allegheny, also an upset victim on Friday, in an elimination game at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Allegheny was upset, 8-6, by Hiram on Friday, and Denison and Hiram will play in the winner's bracket final of the double-elimination tournament at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The Bishops had the first opportunity of the game, with sophomore shortstop Amanda Sanders (Lima/Bath) getting into scoring position in the bottom of the first inning, but were unable to break the scoreless deadlock. Denison took the lead on Alex Murray's solo homer in the second. The Bishops got another runner into scoring position in the home half of the second on singles by sophomore third baseman Rita Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) and sophomore second baseman Devon Walker (Baltimore/Watkins Memorial), but could not bring home the equalizer. Denison made it 2-0 in the fourth when Mary Beth Krolilowski led off with a single and Ali Silver followed with a run-scoring double. Ohio Wesleyan threatened in the fourth and the fifth, getting a runner to second base in each inning, but Big Red pitcher Bri Scrofano worked out of trouble each time. The Big Red loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth as Ali Teopas singled, Krolikowski reached on an error by sophomore shortstop Amanda Sanders (Lima/Bath) and a fielder's choice by Silver, with all runners safe on the play. After Teopas scored on a wild pitch, Brie Berkopec doubled home Krolikowski and Silver to give Denison a 5-0 lead. Sophomore lefthander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan, allowing 6 hits while striking out 5 and walking 2. Scrofano finished with a 4-hitter. She struck out 4 and did not walk a Bishop batter. |
