Sophomore second baseman Emily Bradley (Columbus/Upper Arlington) staked Ohio Wesleyan to a 1-0 lead with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first inning, but Allegheny tallied a pair of runs in the third inning to edge Ohio Wesleyan in an elimination game of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.

Bradley's homer gave Ohio Wesleyan a 1-0 lead, and the Bishops threatened in the second when sophomore first baseman Catrice Mayweather (Lewis Center/Olentangy) led off with a double and stole third one out later. Sophomore lefthander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) then reached on a fielding error by Gator third baseman Maggie Bodenlos, with Mayweather holding third, and Seibel stole second to give the Bishops 2 runners in scoring position with 1 out, but Allegheny pitcher Amanda Downey worked out of the jam.

The Gators took the lead in the third without the benefit of a hit. Abby Bodenlos led off with a walk, stole second, and moved to third on a sacrifice. Marci Potuzko followed with a walk, and stole second, with Abby Bodenlos scoring and Potuzko checking in at third on Seibel's errant pickoff throw. Potuzko then scored the go-ahead run on an error by sophomore shortstop Amanda Sanders (Lima/Bath) on Rachel Ryan's grounder.

Ohio Wesleyan had its leadoff hitter reach base in the third, fourth and fifth innings, and got the runner over to third base in the fourth inning, but could not push home the tying run.

Seibel pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan, allowing 5 hits while striking out 6 and walking 6.

Downey finished with a 4-hitter. She struck out 3 and did not walk a Bishop batter.
