Ohio Wesleyan 66, Earlham 47

Jan. 19, 2008

[ Steffi Graf ]Senior wing Steffi Graf (Poland/Seminary) and senior wing Lindsey Macklin (Columbus/Bexley) scored 4 points apiece as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with an 8-0 run and never looked back on the way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Earlham on Saturday in Richmond, Ind.

Graf buried a 3-pointer to open the day's scoring, and after a lay-in by senior wing Lindsey Macklin (Columbus/Bexley), Graf hit the first of 2 free throws before Macklin hit another lay-in to give the Bishops an 8-0 lead just over 4 minutes into the game.

The Quakers got on the scoreboard on a 3-point play by Samantha Lurie, and were still within 18-12 on Lurie's lay-in with 7:22 left in the period when Graf drained another 3-pointer to end that rally.

Graf hit another 3-pointer and freshman guard Pam Quigney (Mentor) added a lay-in and a 3-pointer during an 8-0 burst that stretched the Bishop lead to 35-16 with 2:50 left in the first half, and the Quakers would not threaten again.

Graf led the Bishops with 16 points, with 14 of those coming in the first half. Freshman post Kayla Gordon (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) added 10 points. Senior post Kelli Lester (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) led the Bishops with 7 rebounds and senior guard Kathleen Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington) was credited with a game-high 5 assists.

Lurie led the Quakers with 12 points, while Shontavia Davis finished with 11 points and grabbed a game-high 9 rebounds. Jayana Sims led Earlham with 3 assists.
