Ohio Wesleyan 91, Wooster 57

[ Kayla Gordon ]Freshman post Kayla Gordon (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) scored 6 points and freshman wing Tyler Cordell (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) added 5 as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 20-2 run and went on to defeat Wooster in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Tuesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Gordon scored the first 3 baskets of the game, 2 coming in the first minute of play and the third on a putback with 16:36 left in the half.

Senior post Kelli Lester (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) and senior guard Kathleen Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington) followed with 3-pointers, extending the Bishop lead to 12-0 with 15:29 left in the period.

Kaitlin Krister hit a jumper on Wooster's next possession, putting the Fighting Scots on the scoreboard, but Ohio Wesleyan scored the next 8 points as Cordell contributed a 3-pointer and a fast-break lay-in and freshman guard Pam Quigney (Mentor) buried a 3-pointer for a 20-2 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

Wooster caught fire shortly thereafter, getting a 3-pointer and a bucket from Meredith Wilson, a pair of baskets by Krister, and a 3-pointer by Kelly Aughenbaugh to close within 28-15 at the 8:32 mark. Taylor Keegan sank a couple more 3-pointers, the second pulling the Fighting Scots within 35-25 with 5:41 on the clock.

Senior post Malley Adamsky (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) then hit a 3-pointer to douse the Wooster rally, and the Bishops would score the last 9 points of the first half, 5 coming from senior wing Steffi Graf (Poland/Seminary), to stretch the lead to 47-28.

Ohio Wesleyan pulled away early in the second half, with Graf and junior post Laurel Lawson (Navarre/Fairless) each hitting a 3-pointer during a 10-0 run that gave the Bishops a 61-34 lead just under 6 minutes into the period.

Graf led the Bishops with 16 points. Gordon, who hit her first 7 shots from the field and finished with a 7-for-8 shooting night, finished with 15 points and Adamsky had a career-high 13 points. Lester grabbed a team-leading 7 boards and senior wing Lindsey Macklin (Columbus/Bexley) dished out a game-high 5 assists.

Wilson led the Fighting Scots with 19, while Krister finished with 15 points and a team-high 6 rebounds. Meghan Maines led Wooster with 5 assists.
