Wittenberg 61, Ohio Wesleyan 45

[ Laurel Lawson ]Wittenberg's Katie Gregorevich hit a pair of baskets as the Tigers opened the game with an 8-0 run and went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in a North Coast Athletic Conference tournament semifinal contest on Friday in Gambier.

Gregorevich opened the game's scoring with a jumper and Ali Rohlfs added a lay-in before another Gregorevich hoop and a Carrie Dyer jumper gave the Tigers an 8-0 lead.

Senior post Kelli Lester (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) put the Bishops on the scoreboard with a free throw, and when freshman post Kayla Gordon (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) connected on a 3-pointer, the Bishops were within 10-4 exactly 4 minutes into the game.

The Tigers responded by scoring the next 7 points, getting baskets from Katherine Hueter and Stephanie Boardman and a 3-pointer from Ellie Stonecash that gave Wittenberg a 17-4 lead with 13:03 to play in the half.

Junior post Laurel Lawson (Navarre/Fairless) hit a pair of baskets that brought the Bishops within 17-8, and Ohio Wesleyan sliced the margin to 8 points on a pair of free throws by junior post Katie Hamilton (Hilliard/Darby) with 5:20 left in the period, but the Tigers answered with a 10-3 run that extended the lead to 30-15, and the Wittenberg lead would remain in double figures through the remainder of the game.

Lawson led the Bishops with 7 points, and Hamilton grabbed a team-high 5 rebounds.

Boardman led Wittenberg with 19 points, while Gregorevich added 12 points, Dyer scored 11 points and Hueter had 10 points.
