![]() Ohio Wesleyan 72, Dubuque 53 Nov. 17, 2007 Thomas More defeated Wilmington, 72-61, in Saturday's championship game. Ohio Wesleyan and Dubuque finished the first half locked in a 27-27 tie, and the Spartans took a 31-29 lead on a basket by Courtney Musser and a pair of free throws from Jennifer Bell. Quigney's 3-pointer gave the Bishops a 32-31 lead, and Graf followed with a 3-pointer to make it 35-31. A pair of free throws by junior post Katie Hamilton (Hilliard/Darby) preceded Aaron's 3-pointer, which stretched the Bishop advantage to 40-31 with 15:31 left in regulation time. The Spartans came back with a bucket by Jennifer Nichols, but Aaron responded with another 3-pointer for a 43-33 Ohio Wesleyan lead, and the lead would remain in double figures for the remainder of the contest. Ohio Wesleyan had taken an early lead as Graf drilled a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws to break a 4-4 tie, and junior post Laurel Lawson (Navarre/Fairless) and senior post Kelli Lester (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) each sank a pair of free throws to hike the margin to 13-4. Graf hit a 3-pointer later in the period that gave the Bishops an 18-8 lead, and Ohio Wesleyan still led, 20-11, on a bucket by senior post Malley Adamsky (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) with just under 5 minutes left in the first half. Dubuque rallied at the free throw line, with Erica Johnson, Sydney Reardon and Tena Stark each hitting a pair of free throws before Reardon and Stark hit baskets to give the Spartans a 21-20 lead with 2:18 left in the half. Lawson and freshman wing Tyler Cordell (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) combined for all 7 of Ohio Wesleyan's points during the rest of the half, with Cordell hitting a free throw to send the teams into the locker room tied at 27. Graf led the Bishops with 15 points, while Aaron finished with 11 points. Senior wing Lindsey Macklin (Bexley) grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds, and Macklin and senior guard Kathleen Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington) shared the team lead with 3 assists apiece. Nichols led Dubuque with 11 points, and Kim Nebel had a team-high 7 rebounds. Graf represented the Bishops on the all-tournament team. |
